R & R Checkup
Risk & Resiliency Checkup
Screenshot - Data Entry Screenshot - Completed Assessment Screenshot - Offender Assessment Report The Risk and Resiliency Checkup consists of 60 items in six conceptual categories – delinquency, education, family, peer relations, substance use, and individual factors. Half of the items check for Risk factors in the youth's life that increase the likelihood that the youth will start or continue criminal activities. The other half identify Protective factors that reduce the likelihood that the youth will commit crime. Subtracting risk factors from protective factors gives the total Resiliency score. As research indicates that recidivism is best predicted by a combination of risk and protective factors, this combined method allows justice professionals to better match juveniles with the programs and services that will most effectively reduce their unique recidivism risks. The RRC may be administered by non-clinical staff in juvenile intake, diversion, probation, detention, group home placement, and aftercare settings. It is completed following an interview with the client lasting approximately 45 minutes. The 2005 Rand Corporation validation study showed the RRC to be strongly predictive for the general juvenile offender population, for both genders, and for minorities in the Los Angeles County Probation System (using the LA-RRC). This study corroborated the results from the 2002 validation on juvenile offenders from San Diego Probation (using the SD-RRC).
